Brent Finnegan Outraises Republican Opponent

With $43,273.39 and 808 individual donors, Brent Finnegan out-raised the incumbent during the most recent two-month filing period, which ended August 31.

“I’m proud of our people-powered campaign. I’m not asking for or accepting money from corporate interests because when I go to Richmond I want it clear I represent my constituents, not powerful interests attempting to profit by making donations to legislators. Unfortunately, my opponent has proven over his career that he follows the corporate money,” Finnegan said.

64 percent of contributions to Finnegan’s campaign came from individual donors, while Del Wilt continues to rely on corporate interests. 54 percent of Wilt’s donations came from corporations and industry groups.

Wilt has repeatedly used his official delegate social media account to promote VA Ready Mix, displaying a glaring conflict of interest. He has received a lifetime total of $7,500 from the Association (of which he is a board member), and owns a concrete company.

“Del. Wilt is a pay-to-play politician who is using his role in our government to advance his personal business interests,” Finnegan said. “If he can’t be trusted to be ethical on a social media account, how can we trust him with legislating in the interest of the public good?”

“With enough people-power, we can do anything, and today’s fundraising totals prove that. Our 808 individual donors added up to overpower his corporate interests.”
