The Virginia Department of Historic Resources-Department of Archaeology awarded a grant to the Northeast Neighborhood Association of Harrisonburg, VA for archaeological research during 2019-2020 at the Historic Dallard-Newman House: constructed by formerly enslaved African-Americans during Reconstruction and listed on the National Register of Historic Places – NPS. The Commonwealth’s “Program for Threatened Archaeological Sites in Virginia” funded this prestigious grant with decisions approved by the State Archaeologist.

Dr. Dennis Blanton, James Madison University faculty member for American Archaeology, is Chief Investigator for the project with Dr. Sarah Brooks, Grant Writer & Museum Studies Consultant to NENA, assisting. Dr. Blanton will be our guest speaker to share with the community some of the exciting finds that have been uncovered.

Our meetings are open to the public. All are welcome!
